Instructor: Olivia James
I was meant to observe Andre Wilson’s Reading class, however when I walked in, the teacher said that they will be taking a test and it made no sense for me to observe a quiet test taking class. He advised me to go to Olivia James’s class for my observation. Professor James’s class was an advanced 4A. I had chosen 2A classes before in listening, reading and speaking purposefully. I wanted to know how different classes would be taught to people at the same level. I didn’t mind observing Professor James’s class though and I found it to be very interesting. I was surprised at how advanced the reading was. The students were reading scientific articles and were supposed to analyze the readings. The Professor had a handy note taking strategy for them to be able to figure out the reading. These are important skills for students to learn especially if they want to continue their studies in the United States.
The Professor was kind enough to share the note taking strategy with me. I am certain that the strategy will come in handy for my future lessons as well as classes that I will personally take at FSU and graduate school.
