The first classroom observation I did was Mrs. Felicia Clappeta's grammar 2B. Upon the start of the class, she started out with a short bellringer. The students had to work in groups and correct the structure of a few different phrases. This was used as a review for past concepts. As they finished, when the students would read the phrases out loud, if one were to mess up, Mrs. Clappeta used the repeat strategy. She would mimic their mistake as a question, giving the student a moment to realize their mistake and correct themselves. After the bellringer, the students were instructed to finish a past grammar worksheet on past verbs. Mrs. Clappeta's role in this was providing the students with a resource to finish the worksheet as well as walking around to students that finished before time to correct their mistakes. These students, then, had to revise their mistakes before time was up. Once time was up, Mrs. Clappeta came to each student, finished or not, and corrected more mistakes, all the while still utilizing her repeating strategy. Within the last 10 minutes of class, she played a video of Mr. Bean and asked the students to watch the video and write a couple sentences about what the subject is doing. Afterwards, she went around reading and correcting sentences again. In conclusion, one thing I noted was the instructors usage of the deductive approach to introduce the activity before the students worked. I thought for this level is perfect.
