The second classroom observation I did was Mr. Angel Rios's Speaking 4A class. Upon entering, I noticed the classroom was not arranged with the usual tables and desks holding only 1-2 people. There was only one long table with multiple chairs around it. I thought this was a great setup for facilitating conversation. For the main activity, Mr. Rios used the deductive approach to announce it and then they did it. The activity was called Rapid Fire. In this, Mr. Rios acted as a moderator, by giving the students a discussion topic and allowing them to debate without placing himself in the middle of the conversation. Throughout the activity, he would note if everyone has spoken up. If someone had not said anything, he called on them to see if they had an opinion to add. On top of that, if someone was having difficulty saying a word or phrase, he would finish it for them. This was the main activity for the class, with a discussion about their upcoming presentations. In all, I enjoyed this class more than the grammar one because I enjoyed seeing how far they have all come in their English. On top of that, in the different topics, you could see how they were able to articulate and share viewpoints based on their different cultures and religions. On top of that, they seemed to enjoy the activity as well and had fun with it.
