Patrick CO # 3

My final observation was of Angel Rios' Reading class. This class was in preparation for a test, so unfortunately there wasn't too much new material being covered. However it was a useful class in its own right. Mr. Rios seemed to do a good job reviewing the information and setting expectations for the next class. He went through the material covered previously, checking the students knowledge by having them speak more than he himself did. Towards the end of the class he also put a rubric up on the board, which seemed to be very similar to what our text book asked us to do. It was nice to see teachers practicing what we are currently learning. I also noticed that reading, perhaps obviously, translates into writing. It was interesting to see how much writing happened in a reading class. These were more advanced students of course, but I wasn't expecting this level of writing happening.  I suppose I was blinkered by the lesson being classified as a 'reading' lesson, and I should have realized that the two actions go hand in hand. Classes don't need to do only what they are labeled, and I feel like this has freed my mind to some degree. Lessons can be a little more flexible than I realized.
