Tutoring Session #1
This week, I tutored a local student named, Abdullah
Alqahtani. We went to his apartment where he wanted me to look over his essay,
talking about his issues with transition words and phrases. I noticed that, for
the most part, he had a clear grasp on using them to the point where it didn't
look like he needed my advice here. I did look over his paper though, pointing
out some errors I noticed concerning grammar, punctuation and spelling. It's a
little ironic that I did this a day before attending the lesson that went over
evaluating students on their writing skills and essays. In hindsight, I felt
that I should’ve criticized the content of his paper and not be too explicit in
how to correct his errors. I followed that up by giving Abdullah some advice on
an upcoming English evaluation test that would allow him to participate in a
class. He told me that he would be tasked with writing a five paragraph essay
explaining the information shown in a line graph. I went over the details one
can use to describe a line graph and jotted down some notes he could use for
studying his upcoming evaluation.
