Mane - CP#6
During my very first meeting with Abdulrahaman, we had
discussed food and what type of food he misses from back home. The conversation
also progressed into discussing the different types of food found in America.
He said that he hasn’t had much experience with foods from other cultures. Remembering
that conversation, I asked him if he would like to try Eastern Asian food. It
took some convincing but he eventually agreed. Since Abdulrahman cannot drive,
the only Eastern Asian food place available nearby (that I know of) is Bento. The
food at Bento is certainly very Americanized but that was the best option
available to us; so we met at Bento. I also thought this may be a good way to
ease him into eating foods from other cultures since he is already familiar
with American food. I don’t think he would have liked it much if we went
straight to a restaurant with truly authentic food. He got the chicken, lo mein
Mongolian bowl. He kept telling me he liked it but he never finished his food
so I guess I never succeeded in changing his mind about trying foods from other
cultures.
