Today, for our conversation meet up, Brenda and I met at Blackdog Cafe. Blackdog was the cafe she noticed when we went to First Friday and we talked about going beforehand. She brought her younger cousin along as well. During our time together one cultural thing we talked about concerned dress. For her in Mexico, everywhere you go, you were expected to dress nicely. Whether it was like a simple t-shirt in jeans, to a nice dress, you have to abide by a certain way of presenting yourself whenever you leave the house. Here, in Tallahassee, she noticed how some people would go to Walmart in sweatpants and dirty tshirts. A funny incident, however, happened when she returned to her town in Mexico. She went to the market in her pajama pants and her friends there thought she was sick! This was pretty interesting to hear, because in some places in America if you got to the market with makeup and nice clothing, others think you are too dressy or trying to hard. Despite this, I realized how similar I was to Brenda in terms of taking pride in how I look no matter the destination.
