My next day tutoring the Congolese refugee family left me
with the usual situation of focusing on the two sons, Omari and Kiza. As for
what was taught, it was almost an exact repeat of what was taught the day
before, which was practicing alphabet memorization and learning about nouns,
verbs and adjectives. I felt a little disappointed, seeing Kiza and Omari not
being able to remember what I taught not more than 24 hours ago, seemingly
performing worse than they did yesterday. It made me feel like I was going
nowhere and frustrated in not knowing why this is the case, unable to figure
out how this can be remedied. Hopefully the explanation is that they are kids
and because of that, they have difficulty understanding most things after just
learning about them once.
