I did a tutoring session with the help of the IRC, where I
was introduced to a Congolese family. Compared to the sessions I’ve done with
the CIES students, this was really scary and challenging because, rather that
offer help and assistance on their assignments, I pretty much had to come-up
with and design original lessons to accommodate multiple people of varying
proficiency. It was also one that took place in a pretty hectic and loose
setting. I taught a family of five, the mother, Amnazo and her four children, Omari,
Anna, Kiza and Neyega. The contact I spoke with before today suggested to
simply introduce myself and get to know the family. After doing so, feeling
that I’ve brought up everything I could for an introduction, I began with a couple
of beginner- level lessons, only to later realize that this inadvertently help
determine this family’s English skills.
