I tutored PJ in writing skills. Since he finished reading the Ancient China packet last week for homework, we went over the vocabulary he was unsure about. After we reviewed the new vocabulary, we went over the new material comparing Hong Kong and China. Then, I introduced the writing plan we will be using for our future sessions.
This is the plan I learned in my middle school, and it worked extremely well for organizing 5 paragraph American essays. The prompt I gave him was "compare China and Hong Kong" so we went through both texts and he highlighted the main points, then the support, then the FEDI. I explained how the organization works and showed sample essays that model the plan. For homework, he was to finish planning his essay so we can start it next session.
