Allison TS#4 (Mardioli)

5/23/18
Tutoring Session #4 of 16

Topic: Grammar
Materials: prompts and worksheets from Rios' 3A class

I tutored Mardioli today on gerunds and noun clauses. Last week she sent me an essay she wrote while transcribing a TED talk on mental strength. I proofread it and corrected the beautiful mistakes; this was the first time I got to use the writing symbols for corrections. We went over her common errors in the essay, such as using gerunds. Then we focused on noun clauses as she has a quiz this Friday in class. For example, we went over using "whether or not" versus "if" in questions using clauses. We also reviewed the difference between noun and adjective clauses so she can create her own sentences using either, demonstrating her understanding of the topics. She also showed me the questions she is planning to use to lead a group discussion in class about privacy and internet usage, so we talked about the difference in privacy laws between Brazil and the US.
