English Conversation Club
This was the third meeting of ECC, and two weeks since we last met due to Memorial Day. Before the break, I told the students that I was going to bring an American game to the meeting so they could practice English in a fun way. I felt like it was easier to facilitate a game with a small group, and the students seemed excited to try something new. So, I brought Hedbandz, a pretty easy game. The games works by each person putting a headband on their head, with a slot for holding up a card with a word on it. On their turn, the person chooses a card without looking at the word, and inserts the card in their headband so that the other players can see what the word is. Then, the person gets to ask yes or no questions, like "is it a person? is it a food? is it common?" etc. The other players answer and the person tries to guess what their word is before the timer runs out. This was a really good way to practice English and American culture while also practicing how to ask questions. It was really fun, and we came across some words that were new for the students, like beaver. The students really enjoyed it and we might do this again for another session to support their practice in a fun way.
