I’ve recently been using a smartphone app called FluentU to
help practice my Japanese skills. FluentU is a language learning app that specializes
in several languages including English. I thought it probably be a good tool to
use for Amnazo and her kids in our tutoring sessions, judging from my personal
experience with using the app’s Japanese and Chinese teaching tools (the latter
being a language that I’ve never studied before and made some strides). The
results, in my opinion, were hit and miss. It turns out the English learning
aspect of the app wasn’t as deep as the other languages served in the software,
seemingly being more of a tool to help people who are already learning English
and are fairly proficient in it, compared to the other languages taught through
the app which could learned by complete beginners. Still, the kids got
enjoyment from the app.
