We started this tutoring session a little more random and
unorganized than usual. I started using the FluentU app again and just like
last time, the results were mixed. I followed that up with a lesson on the
difference between vowels and consonants. I’m not really sure I did a good job
explaining this difference effectively, especially when the lesson was given
from someone with little explicit knowledge on the subject and the best
explanation I gave was that vowels were the letters that were pronounced without
using your lips or teeth. In hindsight that wasn’t a really good idea. I
followed that up with a reading of a children’s book, originally using it as a
way to have Omari and Kiza point to the letters that were vowels, segueing as a
listening comprehension and vocabulary exercise, going over the words in the
book that I felt they didn’t understand.
