I’ve done another tutoring session with Amnazo and her
family yesterday. It felt a little weird doing this alone after the last
session, where I got help from two other people, but I made due and I felt like
some improvement was made in my teaching skills, although I can’t determine it
was the same for Omari, Kiza and Amnazo for their language learning skills. It
started off fine, having the family practice their alphabet and knowing how one’s
name should be spelt where it’s critical to know when and where to write upper
and lowercase letters. Afterwards I tried to improve the family’s reading and
spelling abilities, specifically showcasing scenarios where short and long form
‘A’ pronunciations are used. Personally, I felt that I did a decent job in
trying to explain when to use it in 3- 4 letter words, but I’m not sure they fully
grasped it.
